How does an android tv box/streaming work?

An android tv box is a mini computer that runs an android operating system and acts as a go-between from your internet and to your tv. A tv box is programmed with apps and add-ons that give links to shows you can stream to your tv.

Our android tv boxes run Kodi as a platform and are loaded with apps and add-ons. TV shows, movies, sports, cartoons, fitness videos and more are available but they are not on channels like cable. Instead, you search for a show title, similar to how you would in Netflix. There are no commercials.

Our Kodi build is updated regularly with the latest new streaming sources as apps and add-ons go down from time to time.

For more in depth info and a look at our android tv box Kodi build, please watch our demonstration video here or read below.

What’s the difference between the two models of android tv boxes?

The differences between the two models of android tv boxes are the amount of memory and storage they each have and the processors they each run.

The 2GB/16GB model has 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM with an S905X processor.
The 4GB/64GB model has 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM with an S905X2 processor.

Both models have the same programming, the same basic capabilities and work the same. So what do the differences mean for you?

If you’re planning to use your tv box for streaming only, either model is good.

If you want to add a RetroX games package or are someone who likes a tv box with a lot of memory and storage, the N5 Max is the best choice for you.

Can I watch the shows I watch on cable and Netflix?

Yes, most anything you want to watch is available. And like Netflix, it’s available to watch whenever you choose. No need to PVR!

How soon after a show airs will it available for streaming?

Generally right away.

Can I get sports?

Yes, you can. There are a variety of sports apps available to stream from. We have a great hockey add-on. That said, sports streams may not always be great quality and add-ons can go down. If sports are important, you may to sign up for an IPTV service.

An IPTV service is rebroadcast cable that you pay to use. We do not sell IPTV and are not in any way affliated with any IPTV service. The IPTV service our customers have been happy with is Beast TV. See their website for more info,

What about local live tv?

Live tv can be hit and miss. If live tv is important to you, you may want to keep a basic cable package or get a digital antenna to access local tv channels for free or subscribe to an IPTV service like Beast TV.

Does your programming come with an IPTV subscription?

No. Selling IPTV services (hacked cable) is illegal.

If you choose to add an IPTV service to your tv box, you can do so yourself using the instructions provided by the IPTV service you choose.

Are there any monthly fees?

No there aren’t. If you choose to subscribe to an additional service such as Beast TV or Real Debrid there are fees for those services.

Do I need to subscribe to Real Debrid

No. We find Real Debrid to be a great service for a great value, we wouldn’t go without it. But that’s personal preference. More info about Real Debrid can be found by clicking the highlighted words in the line above.

What speed internet should I have?

We recommend a minimum of 25 Mbps for better streaming. If your speed is slower than 25 Mbps, you’ll want to subscribe to a service called Real Debrid. To see what internet speed you have, go to That website will give you your download speed. We recommend you run a speed test during peak hours (5 pm to 10 pm for a realistic idea of your speed).

Do I need one tv box per tv?

Yes. Technically, you can move your tv box from tv to tv but we don’t recommend that as it’s hard on the HDMI port.

Do I need a Smart TV to use an android tv box?

No. As long as your tv has an HDMI port, you can use an android tv box.

I have a tv box I purchased elsewhere, can you put your programming on it?

Yes, as long as it’s running android version 5.1 or higher, we can for a $40 fee. Click here for instructions to learn what android version your tv box is running and more.

Do I need to update the programming on the tv box?

Yes, streaming sources do go down and are replaced by new ones. There is no timeline for updating. Basically, if you find it’s harder to get shows as easily as you could previously, it’s time for an update. We have everything you need to update your tv box on this website under Customer Help. You don’t need any technical ability, if you can follow directions, you can update your tv box using our clear step by step instructions.

How often will I need to update my tv box?

Updates are a part of streaming. Streaming sources come and go.

As the saying goes, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
If your tv box’s streaming sources are working for you, no need to update.
If you’re finding it’s harder to get working links than it used to be, time for an update.

There is no set timeline. We use lots of different apps and add-ons in our Kodi build so you have multiple sources to choose from. If one is down, there are always others to use.
