How does an android tv box/streaming work?

An android tv box is a mini computer that runs an Android OS allowing it to act as a go-between from your internet and the tv. Using links provided by third-party developers, you can find content/shows on the internet and stream them to your tv screen.

Our android tv boxes run Kodi as a platform and are loaded with apps you click on to access their links. TV shows, movies, sports, cartoons, fitness videos and more are available but they are not on channels like cable. Instead, you search for a show title, similar to how you would in Netflix. There are no commercials.

Our streaming build is always up to date and uses the best streaming sources available.

For more in depth info and a look at our android tv box Kodi build, please watch our demonstration video, here or read below.

What’s the difference between the two models of android tv boxes?

The only difference between the two models of android tv boxes is the amount of memory and storage they each have.
The 2GB/16GB model has 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
The 4GB/64GB model has 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM.

We offer the 4gb/64gb model for those customers who want a tv box with lots of extra memory and storage.
It’s a good choice if you plan to add a bunch of extra apps and/or store movies on it.

Can I watch the shows I watch on cable and Netflix?

Yes, pretty much anything you want to watch is available. And like Netflix, it’s available to watch whenever you choose. No need to PVR!

How soon after a show airs on cable will it available for streaming on the tv box?

Generally right away.

Can I get sports?

Yes, you can. There are a variety of sports apps available to stream from. We have a great hockey add-on.

What about local live tv?

Local live tv is generally available. However, live tv can be hit and miss. If live tv is important to you, you may want to keep a basic cable package or get a digital antenna to access local tv channels for free or subscribe to an IPTV service like Beast TV.

Does your programming come with an IPTV subscription?

No. Our programming contains only free to use, legal streaming sources.

IPTV is pirated cable tv that you pay to access. We don’t sell IPTV. However, if you want to, you can easily add an IPTV service to your tv box. Be aware that since IPTV is illegal, it can be shut down at any time.

Can I cancel cable if I use an android tv box or Firestick?

That’s totally up to you.

Are there any monthly fees?

No there aren’t. If you choose to subscribe to an additional service such as Beast TV or Real Debrid there are fees for those services.

Do I need to subscribe to Real Debrid

No. We find Real Debrid to be a great service for a great value, we wouldn’t go without it. But that’s personal preference. More info about Real Debrid can be found by clicking the highlighted words in the line above.

What speed internet should I have?

We recommend a minimum of 25 Mbps for better streaming. If your speed is slower than 25 Mbps, you’ll want to subscribe to a service called Real Debrid. To see what internet speed you have, go to www.fast.com. That website will give you your download speed. We recommend you run a speed test during peak hours (5 pm to 10 pm for a realistic idea of your speed).

Do I need one tv box per tv?

Yes. Technically, you can move your tv box from tv to tv but we don’t recommend that as it’s hard on the HDMI port.

Do I need a Smart TV to use an android tv box?

No. As long as your tv has an HDMI port, you can use an android tv box.

I have a tv box I purchased elsewhere, can you put your programming on it?

Yes, as long as it’s running OS 5.1 or higher, we can for a $40 fee. Click here for instructions to learn what OS your tv box is running and more.

Do I need to update the programming on the tv box?

Yes, streaming sources do go down and are replaced by new ones. There is no timeline for updating. Basically, if you find it’s harder to get shows as easily as you could previously, it’s time for an update. We have everything you need to update your tv box on this website under Customer Help, Update Tutorial. You don’t need any technical ability, if you can follow directions, you can update your tv box using our clear step by step instructions.

How often will I need to update my tv box?

Updates are a part of streaming free tv. Streaming sources come and go.

As the saying goes, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
If your tv box’s streaming sources are working for you, no need to update.
If you’re finding it’s harder to get working links than it used to be, time for an update.

There is no set timeline. We use lots of different apps and add-ons in our Kodi build so you have multiple sources to choose from. If one is down, there are always others to use.

What is your return/refund policy?

All sales are final. We offer a 30-day hardware exchange on items deemed by Home Arcade In A Box to have a factory defect. Factory defective items are eligible for an exchange with in-stock merchandise when returned with all components and original packaging and receipt.

The purchaser is responsible for bringing/mailing the item to Home Arcade In A Box’s location in Sherwood Park, AB.
